The man with the crown, a peer of NYC-legends like Warhol and Haring, famous for bringing graffiti into art galleries:
Basquiat has been a revelation to many and the stories around the artist are just as wild as his famous paintings (how about going bare foot in a paint-splattered Armani suit for starters?)
Deceased Artist Meets Skate Sneaker Brand
Basquiat had the respect of the New York art scene of the 80s, but, just like Warhol’s work, has long since transcended that. With shows around the world and paintings selling for over $100M (not to forget a couple mentions on various Jay-Z tracks, a very vocal Basquiat fan and collector), the deceased artist keeps making headlines (just recently thanks to the big Tiffany campaign featuring the very same Jay Z and his arguably even more famous wife).
Additionally, the estate has been going for quite some interesting collabs lately, and one of those is with classic skate sneaker brand DC Shoes (we all remember the spaceship-like-looking sneakers from the 90s, don’t we, making those XXL baggies look rather aptly sized).

A Vegan Skate Shoe With Basquiat Exterior
Their “Manual” model, as part of the DC x Basquiat collab that has just been released, has gotten a Basquiat facelift and since it’s a vegan friendly skate shoe, we’re obviously interested — and stoked to be giving a pair away.
To win the Basquiat DC Manual and t-shirt, all you have to do is:
- Subscribe to our newsletter
- Send an email with the title of your favorite Basquiat painting (and why you like it) to humanemotions@antagonist.co
- Don’t forget to mention your shoe size and full address
And that’s it. The winner will be announced in our next newsletter.
